Anthrocon 2008

Man. What a trip. I had a blast there. Four days of fun.

I never thought I would have that much fun while I'm there. And I handled it like a pro in some ways as it was my first ever furry convention. I guess that fursuit of mine made me a bit more confident than before.

Well, let me tell you my adventures.

I took the train over there and I have to tell ya. It's an experience to take it. A LOT less hassle than being in an airport. Less security to deal with and not many rude travelors to meet either. And the travel was looooong. Almost eight hours. Yikes. But, I was able to get there.

And a storm came just as the train did. I had to wait thirty minutes to see once it cleared up. I walked to the hotel as it was pretty much across the street from the train station.

My roommate met me at The Zoo [place where you just hang out during the convention to cool down and meet some people]. He and I talked on getting to the room before I got my badge. Then, went up to the room and met the rest of my roommates. Then, went down to the zoo to just hang around. I changed into my fursuit for the first time and did some walk around. Met several other and got my pictures taken by others. It was actually quite fun. Being the center of attention at times when people want to talk and take picutures of me.

Then, went to their dance and had a blast there. Never a huge fan of dances, but liked to try it out. I met another suiter there and decided to dance with her. We really rocked the house as a lot of people were looking at us. Let's just say that our dance got really intensed. :P As a con security went up to us and say to keep it PG and have us wait outside to cool off. I did and when we went to The Headless Lounge. She was actually a he. O.O Awkward. I needed a cold shower after that one.

Then, the next morning was the first day of the convention and the roommates and I went out for breakfast before going off to the convention. I went to the opening ceremony to know what it's about and what to expect. After that, I went up to change into my fursuit again. Went to a couple of fursuiter beginners' classes to see what it's like to be a fursuiter. Then, went to a first furry con thing to know what to expect while being in a furry con for the first time. After that, a few people I met, a few pictures were taken. Had a great time. Went out to eat. Changed back and went to a Fursuit game. We played Red Rover, Red Light/Green Light, and Musical Chairs. It was really fun. Hope to see it on YouTube. :P Went to the dance again and....same thing happened. Yep. Another guy. That's it. I only dance by myself from now on. But, I did finally danced with a female fursuiter finally. :P So, at least that's something to look forward to.

Next day. Went to another fursuiter class to find out more on how to be one and what to do. After that, I went around in my suit just to look at things. Went to the Dealer's Room to buy a few stuff and check out a few artists. Then, did The Fursuit Parade. Great time there. You guys should see me on Youtube. I'm the only suiter with a title belt. I was tagging behind a tall suiter. He kept stopping for photos and that kept making me bump into him. We also went outside for a photo shoot. It was really humid out there. I don't know how the Disney Characters do it. I wasn't able to see the photographer anywhere as we were told to just look across the river. *shrugs*

After that, I went to The Headless Lounge to cool off and have some water. Met Lucky and Skuff Coyote [No relation. Bf/gf] there as they said they're having The DHC photo shoot. That's Don't Hug Cacti. A little fursuiting company just started that Lucky created. She tried to contact everybody who is there that she made for to come meet them to do a photo shoot. Many came, but not all. But, we had a blast. After the shoot, all of us met a little cute five year old girl that gave all of us hugs and sat down with us to chat. It was fun. After that, we were pretty much on our own. *shrugs* I soon went out to eat and came back to suit some more. Dance again, but didn't do much. There was a fursuiter only dance, so I went there. Had some fun.

Next morning. Another fursuiter class. Went to a panel with a legend Disney animator and first black to work in the Disney Company, Floyd Norman. He talked about his experiences with working with Uncle Walt, the company itself, how it changed over the years, and Pixar as well. It was great to know what he knows. He's the guy who helped created such Disney classics we know and love and helped Pixar as well. He's one of the many reasons we furries are in existance. He also had a fun time there. So, that's good.

After that, I went fursuiting again. Went to a game and had a good time there. Went to the Dealer's room to buy more stuff. Ran out of cash quickly. Out to eat and came back in time for the closing ceremony.

After that, I went to hang around at the zoo. Off and on fursuiting during the time. Got some more pictures and took some of my own finally. :P

Early next morning. I left the room to take the train for a long trip back home. I was bummed that it's all over. I had a great time there. Wish I can go again or perhaps go to another convention.

I'll post some pics of myself and others on this things soon. Not sure if it's allowed since most of the fursuiting pics are on FA. Check out my FA page if you get the chance since I posted some up there earlier. It's down now, so not sure if you guys can see them now. But, try.

Anyways. Anthrocon was THE greatest experience I ever had. I had a blast there. Hope to go to more of these soon. And hope to see some of you there and some of you others again. :)

Alright Andy... here's a little (true) story, just for you.

When I was in High School I did a lot of community service/volunteering in my area because of the club I was in. One time I was at the Fire Station helping out with something pro-diversity at a big rally, and some guy from the station came over and asked me if I would be able to fill in for the person who usually dresses up as the Dalmation Mascot for the Fire Fighters group picture, and get some attention for the exhibit. They were practically begging me, since no one else wanted to do it, so I said sure, why not.

They had me get into one of those Disney-esque costumes with a big spotted dog head (there was a fan on the inside of the nose that helped keep the heat bearable), and i walked around hugging little kids and dancing with old people. It was actually quite fun making people laugh at such a ridiculous thing, until I was outside the joint and a bunch of teenage girls got all excited and wanted hugs and photos. I think they probably thought I was a guy (LOL) but it was alright. I got to make a lot of people laugh and be in a Photo with all the FireFighters from my town and a bunch of little kids, plus i had an odd experience to share with my club the next day.

But seriously, that suit was hot, I don't know how the people at Disney do it, either. All I can say is that they must only have 2 hour shifts tops, and the suits are designed to be sweat-proof on the inside so no one can tell how hot it really is.

Glad you got to go to the con, and that you had lots of fun (and interesting) times there :)

Honestly, I just can't understand fursuiting. It looks so uncomfortable. But the Anthrocon sounds fun. I actually wouldn't mind trying it out... if I could lol.

Heh. That is a funny story. :P

And they do the same thing to some of the Disney costumes as well. And since I worked for Disney at a time. They told me that they do it in shifts. 30 minutes on, 30 minutes off. One set of characters go on for 30 minutes, then they retire for a breather while the other set comes out for another 30 minutes. That's their secret for making sure the suiters don't overheat. :)

And thanks, Astercrow. :) I did had fun.

Heh. It is a bit hard at first, but you'll get use to it. I got use to it pretty quickly, but getting use to the heat and such will take longer. More practice. :P AC was pretty much a test and I think I passed. :) I had such a fun time there. :)

That's cool. More for me to look. :)

Anyone at the con wearing stage makeup? I'd much rather put on makeup than a mask. A lot more comfortable and better-looking as long as you pull it off right.

I'm seriously thinking of doing that someday. Make the area around my mouth look like a cat muzzle with whiskers and split upper lip and all. Of course, I'd have to do some bodily adjustments and modifications if I really wanna look just like my fursona. If I can lose weight, wax the hair off my torso, wear a long black wig and get the right kind of stage makeup I can pull it off.

If you think 8 hours in a train sucks, try riding in plane for that long. That's how long it takes for me to go from JFK to Vienna whenever I travel to Macedonia. Thankfully they got some good airline food and some TV...assuming you're riding international instead of national.

...Come to think of it, I've never in my life rode in a real train before. Only trains I ever rode in are those ghetto-ass NYC subway trains. xP

Anyways, glad to hear you had a fun time. Makes me jealous in a way that you still get to have some fun even in your mid-20's while I'm still working my ass off while constantly worrying about stuff and feeling overall shitty at the same time. Only events I ever get to go to are weddings and fundraiser banquets...

How'd you manage to slip past your parents' BTW?
